When the fire was discovered it had a. strong hold but a bucket brigade did splendid work in keeping the flames in check. The fire started in or near the coal stores but the origin is not known. Nearly 600 tons of cement were ready for bagging and were valued at close on £ISOO. They were stored in this wing and the flames obtained their strongest hold among the wooden bins containing the cement.
