Three months ago an Oamaru fisherman caught a groper that weighed 651bs. when cleaned, and it was reckoned a big one —the biggest ever landed at Oamaru. At Invercargill last week a groper weighing 731bs. when cleaned, was 011 view. Its roe weighed lllbs. Says the Itiverton "Star": Arrangements have been made to test the coal deposits 011 the Birchwood estate, for wliich purposes the diamond drill, at prosent in Orepuki will be brought into use. A sample of the coal, recently sent over to Australia for analysis, was found to be equal to Newcastle coal, so that further developments are anticipated.
