The action of the sugar company in raising the price of sugar is strongly condemned by the jam and confectionery manufacturers. REVENUE RETURNS. The Victorian State revenue for the year was £8,503,167, an increase over last year of £307,190.
SYDNEY, July 1.
The New South Wales State revenue for tlie year was £14,540,055, an increase of £914,000 compared with the preceding year.
KAURI TIMBER COMPANY. At the half-yearly meeting of the Kauri Timber Company the report showed that business was well maintained. The sales show an improvement over the corresponding half year. After careful consideration the directors decided to adhere to the system of Annual dividends instead of half-yearly.
WHEAT MARKETS FIRM. Received 7 p.m., July Ist. July 1. The wheat markets are firm under the influence of unfavourable crop reports from the United States and Canada, which have caused much speculation. European crop prospects are excellent, making buyers cautious. Two Australian cargoes have been sold at 33s 9d and 33s 4d respectively; holders are asking 33s 7id for off coast: 33s 3d has been paid for a parcel afloat. There is rather a better demand for Australian on spot at 34s 6d to 355; New Zealand Tuscan 32s t-o j 33s 6d.
The market for oats is dull; Gartons 17s 6d to 19s 6d; sparrowbills. 17s to 18s 6d. There is no c.i.f. business, owing to New Zealand prices being above English level. La Plata oats, June-July
The butter market is dull; colonial is neglected, and Australian unchanged. Choicest New Zealand, 108s. Siberian is in plentiful supply; choicest, 96s- to 100s.
