At the National Service League ban. quet at the Hotel Cecil, Viscount Miliier, in proposing the toast of "Our Guests," dwelt on the appreciation all felt at the action of Australia and New Zealand in adopting the principles which the League existed, to preach in Britain If South Africa followed three out of the five self-governing Dominions would be lined up behind the principle of universal citizen service.
Sir George Reid, in replying, said that there was no political question in Australia upon military and naval matters. If the love of peace which burned in the hearts of Tvings and Emperors could be translated into naval and military estimates, all would bo wo]], but Britain must be prepared to defend herself upon the instant. If the flag of England once went down upon the seas they would never sec it again.
