HUNTING.
MEET AT PAKIHI. A somewhat high though' warm wind rather militated against successful hunting conditions when the hounds were met on Monday last at l'akihi, but on the other hand the going was excellent and most of the ! country hunted over permitted of a ; lino of a more uninffta.i»j>ted character being taken by the field than Is permissible in the case of the more closely cropped localities. A on«t was mado in Mr Bissett's land, and n hare being scon put up led the .field at a merry nace over a few fences and then made her e«cane, but hounds so very sajou got on the scent of another, that to the uninitiated the run appeared ti be almost without a cheek. Tht second hare was soon run into, thus [ blooding hounds early in the day. | Hunting in the afternoon was of a ! somewhat desultory nature, owing t< i the lack of scent and the numerous i hares, but several short runs, one in ; the directi in of the railway line .'n ; particular, relieved the dny from any | charge of monotony. Expressions o'. i regret were heard on all side that Mr j J. C. Rolleston, an enthusiastic supi norter of the hunt, wns about to (-over ■ his connect ; on with the district, and 'also that Mr H R. Macd-tmald and his ■fa mil v had i-i-i~p<\ to reside at the ; homestead where for mnnv rears past I thev had h,-intablv entertained ' the i field en these occasions. The forth- [ coming local race mooti'mr wns also discussed with mii"h pleasurable anticipation, and ihe deeirfon of the committee that the Point to Point wns to be an event limited to "owners ur>," caused general satisfaction Lunch was most lcindlv r>rTrid' - 1 by V-s A.
