MAILMAN STUCK UP.

AN UNPLEASANT EXPERIENCE. Our St. Andrews correspondent writes:—.Mr Campbell, the mailman at Si. Andrews, had an unpleasant experience on Wednesday. He was driving to the township and was about a. mile, from the railway station when he. was accosted by a. man who sprang off a bicycle he was riding, and seizing the horse by the bridle shouted to the mailman, to "bail up," and threatened to produce a. revolver if he wore not instantly obeyed. He said that he was in the police force, and demanded the. mailman's name. Ho then got into the trap and seizin;.: the whip tried to cot possession of the reins also. A strobile ensued, and the man got out of the trap and attempted to lead the horse away from the direction of tlio township. Watching his chance the. driver turned the horse suddenly, and as it started forward the man lost his /.crip of the reins, though he still retained the whip. Driving quickly Mr Campbell soon lefl his assailant behind and on reaching the township sent word to tin- police at Timaru.
