ROAD BOARDS.

MOUNT PEEL'.The monthly meeting of this Board was held in Geraldine yesterday, when there were present—Messrs G. J. Dennistoun (chairman), Harris and Thaw, Mi- Dixon, sent an apology. On tho motion of Messrs Thaw and Harris, Mr G. J. Dennistoun were reelected chairman.

Mr B. Tripp wrote applying for thre« months leave of absence, as a member. as he would bs absent in Australia.— < Granted.

Mr Sheehan, working overseer,- reported on the work he had been doing; aud that three bridges required replanking on Middle Valley Road and two on Mount Michael Valley road, while further planks were needed for repairs. The old Opihi bridge would soon be dismantled and thev would then be able to get material at moderate cost. Mr Thow said planks would bo also needed for the headworkfl at the water-race. The. clerk was requested to obtain sufficient planks for immediate requirements. The overseer said ho required crates, barbed wire, etc., for patching, which! was needed.

On correspondence regarding the Public Health Act, it was resolved that the Board approve of the proposal to transfer their responsibilities. The Audit Department returned tte balance-sheet, subject to tho usual "exceptions."

Mr Manning, Rabbit Inspector, wrote that when in the Mount Peel district ho <-nw a good many rabbits in the plantations. He' asked tha* poison be laid.—Asrreed to.

The fencing in of the Arundel Cemetery being now completed, the Board's contribution of £5 was passed for payment.

Mr Templer said a plank bridge at Orari Gorge needed raising and lengtir ening.—Agreed to be done.

During: the month the rates recffiTred amounted to £27 10s sd. The bank balance was £2312 14s Id. Payments were authorised amounting to £m 19s 3d.

A ballot wus taken to determine winch two members should he first to retire with the result that the names of Messrs Dixon and Tripp wore drawn. Tlio Board tlien adjourned.
