At the meeting of the Waimate County Council yesterday, the following resolution was carried in silence:— "That members desire to enter on the minutes of the Council an expression of their profound sorrow of the grievous loss to the British Empire hy the untimely death on the 6th inst. of His Majesty King Edward VII., whoso prudent and tactful judgment as a ruler induced a more friendly relationship among the nations, and helped to strengthen the prestige and dignity of the Empire over which he ruled. They would also mark their deep and heartfelt sympathy with the Queen Mother and members of the Royal family in the bereavement which' has befallen ■them. They further desire to put on record their lovalty and devotion to His Majesty Kiuc George V. on his accession to the Throne."

Dennistoun, said that the meeting in ordinary course would have been held on the day appointed for the funeral of the late" "King, and thev adjourned as a mark of respect. He now moved a resolution exoressing the Board's sorrow for the King's death, symnathy with the Royal Familv, and loyalty to Kinc: George V. The motion was carried, those Present standing, and the Board adjourned for a quarter of an hour as a mark of respect.
