ILLEGAL SHOOTING.
To tile Editor of the "Timaru Herald." Sir, —I am pleased to see that Mr Etudholme is hrinaing the Waimatß Acclimatisation Society to a sense of its responsibilities: it is quite refreslitinjj to find a man who is came to come forward and say openly what he thinks. I cap endorse what he says in regard to poaching down there. I shot in the Waimate district one season when pukaki were protected—or supposed to be. - Jndge then of my surprise to •ee systematic pukaki "drives " formed by so-called sportsmen, and the birds Ming shot in hundreds. It was done quite openly, and I came away from the lagoon, whore I had gone in search of ducks, thoroughlv convinced that something more should he done Vr tie Society to protect the game was on that occasion, = anything was attempted at all. juts, etc., P.
