Easley's conical lass lemon squeezer sold enormously, and bis royalties were extremely heavy. An inventor obtained a patent for printer's ink, and lie refused £50,000, and finally sold it for £60.000. A slight improvement in straw cutters realised forty thousand dollars. Howe, the inventor of the sewing machine, derived £IOO,OOO per annum from it. The men who thought of putting metal plates on the soles of boots, and copper tips to children's shoes, each gamed for liimself a competency. The patentees of the styloEraphic pen reioiced in an income of £40.000. Indeed the field is so vast, and the number of profitable patents so great, rhat it would perhaps be a far easier ta>|.- to undertake a recapitulation of what kind of patents do not pay.
