APPLICATIONS TRIPP SETTLEMENT.

To tlie Editor of the "Timaru Herald." j Sir, —In a report of your paper this ; morning you state that there were t I fifteen applications rejected, some of I these through being lato by l.iei ug | posted on Tuesday to the Land Office, ! Cliristchurch, instead of being taken to the Land Office here. I should like to state that on Tuesday nsorninsf, March Bth. at 10.30 a.in.* I went io i the Land Office here and asked for ap- ! plication forms for the Tripp Settlej ment. I was told that there wero no j printed forms left, but in any case | j I .was too' late, and that my applica- j | tion would not be accepted. I pointed j I out to the officer in charge the print- ; j ed conditions attached to the map, and J | one of the sentences read "Applications j | made on the same day aro deemed to i jbe simultaneous," which he did not i seem to understand. Anyhow, I went j to a lot of trouble to get forms, and • sent in my application by posting it by the first express from here. Please note, I sent it by the, first express mail, on Tuesday. Well, on Tuesday afternoon I learned that the Land Office here had been making enquiries, and had been instructed to take applications here and post them on by the second express. Now, liow in the name of all that is fair and just, can my application be rejected, and those taken and posted three or more hours later be accepted ? Surely this wants some looking into. I would have been only too pleased to leave my application' at the Land Office here 011 Tuesday morning, but they would not take "it then. And I ( still insist that the Land Board should 1 accept those applications that were made on Tuesday, March Bth, because las I said before, the reading of the sentence distinctly states that applications made 011 the same day are deemed to ba simultaneous. Trusting you will be kind enough to put this protest in your paper.—l am, etc., TIMARU VIAN. Timaru, Marcli 10th.
