A, Wellington City Councillor complained to his confreres last Thursday evening that lie had been treated in a scandalous way by doorke-epers and the police at the civic reception to lord Kitchener that day. A Council employee, who knew him well, let in a friend, of his own, but .barred fha way to tho councillor. Then he was actually seized by two policemen—lie gave their numbers—while he was in the street. They caught hold of him roughly, and yet he was on business at the Town Hall as a Councillor. Councillor Luke, who was Acting-Mayor, said not only the City Councillors, but members of the Press and others who had business at the Town Hall, had not that courtesy extended to them which they Bhould have received. This was a. matter affecting the right of free entry to the Town Hall, and the entry, with some dignity, -of the peonle running the affairs of the city. The town cleric explained that the councillor had tried to enter by a door reserved for certain persons. Even His Excellency the Governor was "stuck up" at the first door he sought to enter.
