Mr George Watts is starting for a sue months trip to the Old Country next month. A cable message reports the death of Mr Percy Buller, son of the late Sir Walter Buller, at Mentone, France. Mr A. W. Morgan, stationmaster at Auckland (formerly chief clerk at Timaru) who has been spending a holiday here and in the south, returned home yesterday. Mr E. Coxhead, for many years Timaru traveller for Messrs "Briscoe and Co., was presented by his fellow travellers at Dunedin with a handsome lounge chair on his retirement from the road, to take up the responsible position of manager of Messrs Briscoe and Co.'s Christchurch branch. Messrs Geo. Fenwick (Otago Daily Times) and Smith (Dunedin Star) passed through Timaru yesterday morning, returning from the annual meeting of the Press Association at Botorua!° Constable Harvey, of the local police force, leaves to-day for Christchurch, having been promoted to the charge of the Fendalton station. A little function was accordingly arranged for last night, when a number of representative citizens met in the Borough Council Chambers, and the Mayor, on behalf of numerous subscribers, asked the departing constable to accept, on behalf of hi s wife, three presents which took the form of travelling ■ and to-let requisites. In doing so, 'Mr Craigie spoke very highly of Constable Harvey, who, he said, was recognised by all who knew him as an intelligent constable, a man of good character and ability, and one who discharged his duties honestly yet tactfully. They were all sorry that he was leaving Timaru, but were pleased to know that he had received well merited promotion. He wishedhim the best of success and prosperity, and assured, him that in leaving Timaru he was taking away with him what was better far than gold—the esteem of his fellow men. Sergt.
