WAIMATE SALES. Messrs S. K. Martin and Co. report on their weekly auction sale as follows: —In live stock we had an entry of five horses and 124 pigs mostly weaners. The attendance was not as large as usual owing no doubt to it being Carnival Week in Christchurch. Competition, was not so keen and prices showed a marked decline on those ruling for the last few weeks. Of the five horses entered two were sold.. We sold over 100 pigs; suckers at 8s 6d to 10s 6d. weaners at 10s 6d to 14s 6d, stores* at 20s to 30s. For poultry there was a good demand, forward hens sold at Is 6d to Is 10d, roosters Is 6d to 2s. Chick wheat good 10s 6d to 12s. medium 9s to 10s 6d, oatsheaf chaff 2s to 2s 3d, potatoes, table 5s to 7s, onions 2s per lb, bacon 8d per lb. A large consignment of furniture and sundries realised full market values. A plough sold for £3 2s 6d, bicycle 3s, copper £1 16s, etc.
