THEFT OF PAPER.
A TRAVELLED FINED. L'or Press Association. WELLINGTON, Nov. 12. A traveller named John M. Laing, appeared"'in the Magistrate's Court today before Mr W. G. Hiddell, b.M., on si private prosecution. He was charged with, committing theft on or about the 13th August of a bale of printing paper, valued at £2 3s, the property of Gordon and Gotch, wholesalo stationers, and committing theft on or about, the Ist October of another halo of paper valued at £3 10s 6d, also belonging to Gordon and Gotch. .Mr-Weston appeared for the prosecution and Mr Hordman for defendant, wjio pleaded 1 guilty. , Mr Weston informed the Court that defendant was an eniployeo of thn firm of Gordon and Gotch. There had been a long series of thefts of pancr. he alleged, extending over a period of about three years, and running into £6O or £7O. Informants if they desired could have made other nllerrations against defendant, but it is difficult in a large firm to trace exactly all the. thefts. Tt was only when stocktaking thnt the. losses were discovered. A fine of £lO was imposed for on eh offence with costs (6s). Defendant was allowed twenty-four hours to pay.
