MINING NEWS.
THE NEW ALPINE MINE. Per Press Association. GREYMOUTH, Nov. 12. The following is a copy of tjio New Alpine manager's report for the week ended November 9th:—"No. 14 level was extended 19fb for five days, making the total driven from the cross cut 316 ft. A good deal of quartz was met with during the week in • boulders varying from Ift to 3ft in witTtu. At the present time tho stone in the faeo is Ift 6in at top and' 3ft 6in' at bottom, but values are too low to be of any practical value, though there has beeii a slight improvement on last week's values. In raising for stope in No. 14 north reef was opened out to 4ft in width. This stone is hard at present hut will improve as we open up. A light rock drill has been ordered for these stopes and will quickly |:ay for itself. In the old stopes above No 33, the stone is nearly all cut out ami tho grade is not so good as it was last month. A water jet was laid i.p to the face of No. 14 level, and it , ; s ' cry effective in laying the dust, fumes, etc. The new pump was, placed in position in No 14 level and will be given a run to-morrow."
