A lady * who came ttnui Fiji to undergo ,a scnous operation was placed in a cab in Queen street by a doctor, who in- \ structed a man who jumped on the box ' and assumed the driver's scat to drive the lady to a private hospital. The driver instead of taking tile lady to the hospital drove her in the direction of Onehuiiga. Tho lady protested tlnyb she'was being en rued beyond her destination, whereupon she alleges .that the driver loft his seaVstruck hot,, stole hor gold nngs and jewellery, and a considerable sum of money. "lie' doctor subsequently proceeded,',to the private hospital 'to find" his patio-it, ' and finding she wa# not there communicated with the police. Six "on stables were' detailed "to 'search for ihp lady, and found her at pnehungq,. Tha police sent her to'tho' pVivate hospital. She is suffering from shock'. The cab was found in Queen street again, but tho driver haddisappeared, , Th 6 cabman, it is stated, was having his ten, when ihe' man,- who hv known to the police, assumed the role of driver. So far he has not been arrested.
