SHUNTER MANGLED.
SHOCKING BAIL WAY ACCIDENT. Per Press Association. ASHBURTON, Oct. 29. Another shocking railway accident occurred this afternoon when during shunting operations at Hinds John Richards, aged about 19-or 20 years, caught his foot in a block and fell across the rails in front of tho engine, which passed right over him frightfully crushing his thigh, and almost severing his leg, mutilating both hands and breaking his left arm. The victim,; who retained' consciousness till chloroform and morphia were injected, was brought into the Ashburton hospital in a critical state, and tho' doctor, holds out no hope of his ultimate recovery. '■' '* Richards had been at Hinds only it few months, having been transferred there from Rangiora.
