Sir William Hornby will not seek reelection. THE BERMONDSEY EU'XTJOX. OPPOSITION VICTORY. OUTRAGE BY AVOMEN. Received 10.10 p.m., Oct. 29th. LONDON, Oct. 29. The bye. election for Bermonscy owing to the. death of Mr Cooper resulted in the return of Mr .1. Humphreys, Unionist and tariff reformer, by 4278 votes; Mr 5... H. Hughes, Liberal, 3291; Dr Salter, Socialist, 1135. The. Opposition papers are jubilant, believing that Bcrmondscy is an index constituency, always swinging in sympathy with national feeling. The "Chronicle" declares that the result illustrates the failure of the Britisli representative system,--ami the need of electoral reform. Mrs Chap and Miss Mielans, members.of' the AYomcu's FVecdoui; League, entered two of the polling booths and emptied a bottle of corrosive, fluid .into the ballot boxes. Only a few papers were spoilt. The acid splashed •on tho face of Mr Tborley, the presiding officer, and the hospital authorities stato .that he will probably lose an eye. The Lcaguo admit that it was a. deliberate plot to invalidate the election, but deny that vitriol was used.

In the House of Commons, in reply to a question, Mr McKcnim admitted that the contractors, had lost confidential, drawings relating to. the warship Indomitable, not tho Invincible. The First Lord added that, owing to the Indomitable being in commission for some time, the drawings had lost much of their value.
