SOUTH END v. TIMARU. The above match was played yesterday on a toft wicket at the Athletic Grounds. "Winning the toss South End elected to bat, but with the exception ot Douglas, who batted well for 31 not out, no one made any stand and the innings closed for 66. O'Callaghan, 7 for 14, proved the destructive element. Timaru amassed the respectable total of 205 before the last wicket fell, Campbell heading the list with. a. very hard hit 68, not oyi, Patton coming next with a still harder 4-L Bain, O'Callaghan and Donohue also showed good form for so early in the season. CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 28. Mr D. H. Thomson, hon. secretary of the Canterbury Cricket Association received a letter from Mr H. Cumble of Melbourne, to-day, stating that \\. Carlton, of the North Melbourne Uub, was willing to accept a two years engagement as coach to the Canterbury Cricket Association. CarTton is about the best all round man m his club.
