THE FINANCE BILL. (Press Asisociatiou-By Telegraph-Copyright LONDON, Oct. 27. An uuimated debate took place in tho House of Commons on the proposal to omit Clause 43 of the Bill, ( n the ground that it was an attempt to carry a Licensing Bill in the guise of a finance measure. It was claimed that many of the smaller licensed houses would be taxed out of existence. Mr Asquith denied that there was any vindictiveness, though the trade had been warned of the result if the Licensing Bill were rejected. Mr 11. Samuel, Under-Secretary for the, Homo Office, said that the Government had dealt with hotels and restaurants in a conciliatory manner. NEAV CLASS OF CANDIDATE. The •'Standard'' has successfully opened a public subscription to defray the election expenses of Unionist working men. THE IRISH LAND BILL. Received 9.25 p.m., Oct. 28th. LONDON, Oct. 28. Mr Asquith announced Ids intention to move the rejection en bloc of the House of Lords' amendments to the Irish Land Bill.
