Councillor Hunt sent, an apology. .uessrs -Hamilton and -doore advised the Council that they considered tlie Council were legally entitled to subsidise a band room as proposed, and thought tho building sliou.d be vested in the Council.
The nightsoil contractor sent in his resignation and tiie matter was referred to the sanitarv committee.
The Tinmru A. and I'. Association asked that the Council make a holiday from noon on Thursday.—lt was decided the Council could not accede.
The town clerk, Christchurch, wrote asking the Council to pass a resolution in favour of compulsory military training.—The Council decided that pending the Hon. Air AlcNab's promised lecture thev would not take any action.
The water committee reported having accepted Air E. Bishop's tender, £8 15s for painting the bottom of the bath, and recommended that the baths be open on week days from 0 to 7.45 a.m.; Sundavs, 7 to V) a.m.; Thursday afternoons, "i to 3.35 (for school girls and ladies), 4 to 8 p.m. (for men); week day evening, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.; prices to be the same as last year; monthly .tickets to be issued at 2s (id each. —The report- was adopted. Alessrs AA'ilson and Logan wrote re water charge, for which they considered they were not liable.—Referred to water committee
Dr Finch wrote that Richard J. AlcKenzie had been appointed sanitary inspector for the joint district, and hoped the Council would be able to pass a resolution to enable him to take office from November Ist.—lt was decided to give the local inspector three months' notice of tho termination of his agreement,, but to relieve him from his duties as from November Ist. The AYaimate Cricket Club asked for a grant for cutting grass on cricket ground in park, as had been made in former years. —No money was available for this purpose. One application (W. Eleock) was received for position of baths caretaker, his tender was 25s per week.—The application was referred to tiie water committee, also the date of opening the baths.
