THEATRE ROYAL.
« THE PIRATES." EEPEATED SUCCESS. A crowded Louse greeted the Timaru Operatic Society's second performance of "The Pirates of Penzance'.' in the Theatre Royal last night. The piece Trent even, better than on the first night, and the frequent and hearty applause and several recalls testified to the.enjoyment and appreciation of the audience. "The best the society has ever done," waa at. least a maojrity verdict. The orchestra deserve a further word of praise. The overture was a- first-rate piece of work, and put the audience into a happy 'frame_ of mind to enjoy the succeeding music. The opening chorus too was inspiriting, and interest never flagged. In one particular the performance was superior to many given here by professionals. Tho : singers were careful of enunciation, and the hook of songs (useless anyhow for lack of light) was unnecessary for the ptfrpose of following the singers. For the performance to-night arrangements have been made for booking seats—tul noon at the Dresden, and then at Mr MitchelPs next tho Theatre. Holders of tickets for unreserved seats are particularly requested to be eariv, not later than <-30 p.m., or the management cannot guarantee them a seat.
