Taylor, who pointed out that the result of Mr Buick's work was ;i farm worth, oil his own showing, i'3(j ail acre. Tho member for Christclimch compared this success with the, lifetime's efforts of the average artisan, who, if he was fortunate enough to keep in steady work, only enjoyed a living all his life, and unless ho was fortunate, had nothing so substantial as Air Buick's' farm as a. reward for his labour. "But he's got no brains," commented the members for Palnierston North. Mr Taylor replied that there wore men working in the enginorooms ol steamers at Wellington wharf who had more brains, a u itler outlook, and were better road and of liner culture than any hall-dozen farmers tbe interrupter could name. Tho supper adjournment, intervened, and gave Mr Buick time to reflect, for ho rose to make a. personal explanation when the House resumed. Mr Taylor, ho said, had been drawing a comparison between a successful farmer and an artisan who appeared to have been a fai litre — Members: No, no! Mr Buick: 1 made the ejaculation that perhaps one had brains and the other had none. 1 did not mean that to apply to the artisan generally, Some of the dullest may bo farmers. (Benewed laughter).
