At the tallow sales 1"2"2(5 casks were offered and 1035 sold; fine mutton realised 335, medium 31s; line beef 3*2s 3d, medium 30s. Silver, Is lid 11-16 d per oz. At the wool sales there is spirited competition. All descriptions are firm at the highest level. Tho wheat markets are dull owing to liberal Russian supplies, but the tone is somewhat steadier on iirmcr American advices. There is little inquiry for cargoes; -lis is asked for sailers afloat, which is Is above buyers' ideas of value. New crop, DecemberJanuary shipment, per sailer is offering at 37s Cd, and per steamer 38s to 38s 3d. Some .steamer parcels afloat have been sold at 39s 6d to 40s. There is a small demand for spot lots at 43s to 43s 6d. New Zealand long berry, 38s 9d to 39s Cd; short berry, 3Ss 3d to 38s 6d.

The butter market is quiet, and prices are unchanged.' A few stored colonial lots are selling at IOGs to 112s; holders arc asking Ills to litis for New Zealand ex Turakina.

The sugar market is quiet; German, lis 8(1; first marks, 13s Ski. Tin; Bradford wool market is very still'; liijdi prices an; chai-.king business, and thgre arc no actual transactions. Quotations are—forties, 13Jd; forty-sixes, lojd; common sixties,. 27d: super, 2Sd; sixty-fours, 29d.

Messrs Dalgcty and Co. report under tin to London. September 23rd: "Limited demand for frozen lamb atunchanged prices, except medium weights for %vliieli prices are occasionally higher by id. Tlie advance in prices oArozen miittuii has checked business. Prices are. nominally unchanged, but unless there is an improving demand a reaction is probable. The frozen beef market is weak, the demand is limited, and prices are lower by id per lb." The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd.. have received th';_ undermentioned cable advice from their London house in regard to the progress of the, wool sales there: —"Safes progress lirmly. As compared with last sales closing rates, prices are about 10 jier cent, higher for merino, medium and inferior, and about 7\ to 10 per cent, higher for greasy merino super and scoured merino super."
