At a representative meeting of the JleiveuiHe coIUe Uog Club helu on Saturday evening, opportunity was taken ot waking a oreseu cation to one of its members—one who had been a supporter of. the club, irom its inception, inen a mere youth he was one of those ardent young sports who was ever ready to -orf coat and at it" with the cheerfulness that goes so far towards cheating labour of its irksomeness. And that there were real labours in those early days, when everything pertaining to the carrying out of-.trials had to be undertaken ; by volunteers,.- goes without saying. And in later 'years, trince the club has attained standing onough to be in a position to try it* active members less, the same spirit of ready, assistance has obtained,. and in nonfe in a more marked maimer than, as tne president explained, urintroducing the matter, m, that ardent' and jovial sport Mr S. Bryant, who was about to enter into another .contract. Consequently 'the' club deemed'"if a Biting occasion whereon to show some little due appreciation of the sterling support Mr' Uryant had ever given the club. So they had met that evening to ask their guest to accent a 'wedding present. This took the form of a suitably inscribed marble clock, which Mr Scott.presented with a few well chosen words combining congratulations on the present, and good wishes for the future w-iiicn orougno forth hearty applause. Mr Bryant in acknowledging the gift modestly-, expressed surprise that the club should .think.be;had'done anything to earn even tbewsuggestion. handsome a present," and- assured them that he.bad .Always found:ample <pleas : ure. in whatever- he had -done (towards helping the'club along, in the associations he had had therewith, and he jstill hoped to have for long to come; but In? would accept their valuable present as a token of goodwill towards
his future wife. " During .the evening some. capital songs, were. contributed by Messrs • McKay, Robertson and'others, recitations.- by >, Messrs Anniss . and Keefe, as well as-numerous'speeches befitting the occasion^
