FAIRLIE NOTES.
(From Our Own Corresx>ondent.) A cold snap was experienced on last Tuesday It was a. brief turn, -but was very rough while it lasted. Some snow fell, but it was only a spriukling, and it soon disappeared under the inllucnco of tho next morning's sun. Tho mountains, however, got a good coating. Frosts have bceil frequeut, and fairly severe for the time of the year. They havo had the effect of checking growth.' ."A few lambs are appearing, and are doing well. ■ A very successful progressive -cucliro party was held in the Fairlie schoolroom on Friday evening in aid of tho school piano fund. The room was well filled, and a very pleasant and exciting couple of hours was spent. About a dozen games were played, and w-cro very keenly' contested. The prizes were won by Miss A. Caskey, and Mr Frank Bell. The. booby priV.es were won by Miss . Uoberts ; and . Airs Kennedy. Messrs King and. Foden. kindly gave the principal - prizes for the occasion. The entertainment was so successful in every way that it has been decided to have another at an .early date. Tlie fortnightly meeting of the Gladstone Lodge, ISo. 38, 1.0.0. F., was held on Saturday evening. There was a splendid attendance over which Bro. H. Lomes. N.G.. presided, assisted by Bro. C. King V.G. Some eases of slight sickness were reported, and sick pay as rcqqnired was passed for payment. Two candidates were admitted for initiation and were duly instructed in the mysteries of odd fellowship. A good deal of interest is being taken iii tho question of forming a racing track on the new show grounds. The ground committee of the A. ami I'. Society met tho racing club's committee on the ground, and a report will bo made to tho A. and V. Committee at a meeting to be held on Wednesday afternoon.
