Air Chutlield, organiser for the Defence League, paid a hurried visit to Tennika on Friday, to confer with Captains Chapman and Hoi well on the proposal to bold a, public meeting,in the town at. an early date to further the cause of'the League. The meeting has been fixed for Wednesday, September. 22nd, arid' the Mayor has promised to preside. . ~ ' Mr M. Barnett, of Wellington, was a visitor to Temuka during the week. Mr Macdonald, who , lias managed the local branch of the South Canterbury Dairy Company for some months, leaves on Tuesday next to take up the position of manager of a dairy company in the Pa lmerston North district. The members of the Land Purchase Board paid a vist to Temuka.. yesterday, and inspected some properties that ftre under,offer to the: .Government for closer settlement purposes.
