WRECK OF THE PENGUIN.
CLAIMS FOR COMPENSATION. Per Press Association. "WELLINGTON, August 30. The Arbitration Court had before it to-day a number of claims for compensations arising out of the wreck of llio Ponyiiin in February last. The claims generally were admitted, the only question being tho amount of compensation. ln ; the case of Albert Gen. Lusemoro, third officer, the Union Company agreed to pay £SOO to the PublicTrustee for the benefit of the widow. In a claim by the parents and brother of Walter Rentoul, engineer, Mr Justice .Sim said that when tho Court was properly constituted by the appointment of a successor to the Into Afr S. Brown, employers' representative, it would probably make an order on the basis of £l3o and costs. An order was made by consent for payment of £207 to the mother of Francis Driscoll, second officer. The Court stated that in the ease of the claim by the mother of the late Mrs Hone, stewardess, it was prepared to make an order for £72 compensate", if necessary. Ilis Honour was informed that several claims had been settled 'out of Court. The bearing of other claims against the Union Company was adjourned till Thursday.
