MEETING OF ■ COUNCIL. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, August 30. The Council of the New /calami Amateur Athletic Assertion cl.:c-i«;ed to ask the Mayor of Wellington (Or Newman), who is alsc* president <>t the N.ZJLA.A., to give the Now Zealand team which lias won the Australasian state championship at Brisbane, a civic--welcome on- Wednesday evening on their arrival from Sydney. The Acting Fremier, members of Cabinet, and the Wellington members of Parliament and representatives of other sports bodies, will be invited. The South Canterbury Harriers, who are conducting the New Zealand interprovinciat cross-country championship races at Timaru on September Oth, asked that the medals and badges for the prize winners be forwarded by that date, so that they may bo presented at the Club's reunion the saint* night.—The request was acceded to. Consideration of a letter from ihe Australasian "Union with regard to the proposed visit to Australia and N.-w Zealand of R. E. Walker and Hefferon or Duncker, South African athletes, was held over until further details are obtained. Mr Marryatt referred to the position of the" Southland Centre. They liad had no reply to any communications sent to that Centre for some time, and something would have to l»e done to wake it up. Perhaps the delegate might be able to do something. Mr Da vies (delegate for Southland) said he had written to Dr Snow (president) and Mr A. A. Paape (secretary) in connection with the matter, but "there was not time yet for a reply. It was decided under the circumstances to allow the matter to stand over until the next meeting. Messrs A. Marryatt, A. Davies, TI. S. Robinson, and .1. F. Thompson were appointed an organisation committee to work up the sport in districts where it is at present neglected.
