SKATING. The usual good gathering assembled at the Rink on Saturday for their week-end enjoyment on the rollers. His Worship the Mayor, Mr Craigie, .has kindly consented to present the ourmval prizes,' and will do so tomorrow evening. Another carnival *;u bo held shortly, partaking of a mixed character, both poster a nil fancy. THEATRE ROYAL. To-night a programme of entirely .lew pictures will be shown. These are said to excel all others ever shown in Tiinaru. The star picture is entitled "Henry HI," a dramatisation of the great historical play as produced at the London Lyceum Theatre by the late Sir Henry Irving. The picture is a very long one. and in addition will cause considerable interest, being educational as well as showing the whole play from start to finish. The other pictures have been thoroughly well selected. The management are doing their best to introduce the best of films obtainable. Some of the pictures are: Champagne Industry, Miniature Circus. The Bride of Farbiana, Star Globe Trotter, Special License and The Mesmerist. The box plan is open at Kingston's as usual. TOMMY BURNS. Tommy Burns, ex-champion of the world, whose great fight with Jack Johnson at the Stadium, Sydney, is now known to nearly every country in the world as a fighter of great judgment and courage, has practical ly only been beaten once, losing the championship to Johnson on points, through the police stopping the light. Tommy Burns won the position of champion of the world through beating Jack O'Brien on May Sth, 1907. than two years before O'Brien had gained the -championship through knocking out, in thirteen rounds, Bub Fitzsimmons, to whom the title reverted through the retirement of Jeffries, as it was from Fitzsimmons Jeffries wrested the laurels. But Burns did something more. Previous to meeting Jack O'Brien, he bested Marvin Hart, who. had a points decision from black Jack Johnson in a match which took place soon after Jeffries' withdrawal, and was billed for the championship of the world. Thus was Burns' position clinched in two ways. and no openings left for ever-ready hole-finders This great boxer will appear with his company and sparring partners at the Theatre Royal on Friday and Saturday next.
