Crook was found guilty of the North Sydncv shooting affray on April Ist, and recommended to mercy. Scnteneo of death was recorded. CITY TO BE REMODELLED. The final report of tho City Improvement Commission which has been sitting since May of last year .recommends a comprehensive scheme of rojnodelliug Sydney, including the- immc'ilinlo introduction of underground electric railways iu the city. and suburbs, the widening of Elizabeth street its entire length to not less than 100 feet, creating, widening, and improving aher streets. The other recommendations arc generally for the beautifying and development of tho city, the removal of the ryrmont bridge, providing for new traffic routes to* the wharves, dealing with slum areas, and housing reforms. It is considered that the scheme will meet the needs of traffic for the next 25 years, at the ,u'id of which, at tho present rate of increase, the estimated population of the city and suburbs will be a million and a quarter. PHYSICAL TRAINING OF BOYS. MELBOURNE, .Tune 26. The iuter-Stato Conference of the military and education heads of departments discussed the physical training of school boys in relation to their fitness for cadets, and recommended tho appointment of a general Riipervisor of physical training centres for the training of instructors, and provision in the schools' curriculum of an approved system of physical training of teachers and scholirs.
