It is stated that 'Mr Foxton, the Commonwealth."' representative to.; the Defence Conference, is not commissioned to urge any specific views upon the Defence Conference, but rather to deal with suggestions made, at the same time preserving Australian ideas. He is not bound definitely on the question of what form Australia's contribution to the navy should take, but he knows that. Ministers prefer that it should be in the , shape of ships and men rather than an increased subsidy. It is believed that the. final result of Australia's offer will be the establish; ment of a small section of the Imperial Navy provided by the Commonwealth. DATE OF THE CONFERENCE.
