A sensation was caused hy the High Court acquitting three Indians who had been sentenced at Midnapore for conspiracy. During the original trial the leading witness for the prosecution withdrew his deposition, and the charge against twenty-three was dropped. hut three were convicted. The Hi-dt Court's judgment censures the method* which were taken hy the police in this case, and a rigid enquiry has boon opened.
