AGRICULTURE IN SCHOOLS.
To the Editor of the '•Tinuyru Herald" Sir., —I see it' is explained that .amounts voted towards the salary of an agricultural instructor would be doubled bv Government- subsidy. 1 agree that this would bo so in the case ot : votes from Agricultural and Pastoral Associations, and from County Councils, hut the grants from Technical Associations would not be entitled to such subsidy. Take this as an example. All voluntary contributions to Technical Associations get a Government subsidy of equal amount. Suppose a donation, of £5 is made to a Technical Association. Then the Association gets £5 more from Government. Can the Association then vote this £lO toward the salary of an agricultural instructor and will the Government give a £lO subsidy:on it? T. doubt it. It would be a- case of £ls Government money to £5 donation, lie the £5 10s grant to District High School .pupils working not less than 20 hours a week through the year at a course of agricultural instruction, I consider that no money can be got from, this source for the simple reason that an agricultural instructor could not snare the time to give the lessons, and if some other teachers had to do it then the capitation would be used to pay that other teacher. —I am, etc., CRITIC.
