The weather was unsettled, but there was a good wicket when the match against Leicestershire began to-day. Seven thousand persons were present. Hopkins, Carkeck, Armstrong, Bardsley and Noble were omitted l'rom the Australian team.
Hnselrigg won the loss, and Leicestershire went to the wickets. Wood made a. single, and was then bowled by Whitty—l for 11. Knight gave a chance at the wickets off Cotter when he had scored IS, and King gave a chance to Hartigan in the slips off Whitty when he had made 7. Both batsmen played sound and steady cricket, scoring by off driving and cutting. The first century was reached in DO minutes. Shortly after luncheon the partnership' was dissolved, Cotter breaking King's stump, and the second wicket fell at 136. King's score included 10 fours. The fourth wicketfell at 160. Crawford joined Knight. The latter, who played brilliantly on the off-side, was caught, by Carter. He batted 170 minutes, and made 10 fours —5 for 186. Crawford scored stnartlv. He made 52 in 50 minutes, and his total occupied 75 minutes. He was brilliantly caught at inid-off. His score included. .14 fours—9 wickets for .264, and the innings closed a few minutes later.
