PERSONAL ITEMS.
Colonel J. R. Purdy has been appointed acting director-general of medical services to the forces, vice-sur-geon general Skerman (resigned) with the temporary rank of colonel.
His Honour Mr justice Denniston arrived from Christehurch by the second express yesterday, to preside at the sitting of the Supreme Court in Timaru to-day. The Hon. T. Mackenzie. Minister of Lands and Tourist Department, passed through Timaru by the first express south yesterday on his way to Dunedin, whore lie will open the Winter Show. The Minister was accompanied bv his secretary, Mr L. E. Johnson. 'Dr J. M. Mason, chief health officer, retired from that-position yesterday. He leaves on June 17th, for London, where during the coming year he will attend to various matters on behalf of the New Zealand Government.
Major Sarah Young, formerly of Wellington, is coming from the Melbourne headquarters of the Salvation Army, to take the position of Women's Social Secretary in the South Island.
