Two seamen were washed overboard and drowned.- Tho chief officer and two seamen were badly injured. : KILLED BY TORNADO AND CYCLONE. On May 21st it was reported that Mrs Kenny, of Maranui. a boardinghouse keeper, was missing from her home, and it wns believed that gheh'nl committed suicide by jumping into the Wanganui river. To-day Inspector Cullen received word from Constable Maher, of Tuamarunni, stating that yesterday he recovered tho body of Mrs Kenny from the Wanganui river, some distance below the supposed scene of the tragedy. TAIHAPE, May 31. Mr Burrell, manager at the Irvine Mill, Turangarero, had Lis leg badly crushed. A doctor was sent from here by special train and after attending the sufferer had him sent to the Warfgamu Hospital, the proprietor of the mills defraying the expenses ol the.special trains. A fatal accident happened at Ivoeiie, caused by a landslip wheh buried Mr Alexander Pringle, a labourer of Htinterville, and two other men. Pringle was dead when dug out, tho others were not seriously injured. About 40 men were- engaged in the work of rescue. . GISBORNE, May 31. Two fatalities are reported from Rnakitiiri Station. .A man named Victor Berg was killed whilst bushfelling, a tree coming down on him, Maori-boy was drowned in the Ruakituri river. / WANGANUI, May 31. , Mr S. Saynor Griffiths, manager of the local branch of Turn bull and Company, died suddenly this afternoon from apoplexy. Deceased, who was 61 vears of age, was for many years associated with tho public life of the town, and was very'well known on the coast, WELLINGTON, May 31. The body of William King was found near the railway about a mile south of Havwood's on Sunday morning. At the' inquest to-day it was stated that the deceased,; who one witness said had on Saturday night boon sliehtly under the influence of liquor,, had sat down on one of the sleepers and been struck by the engine of a passing train. A verdict of accidental death was returned . HOKTTIKA. May 31. When crossing the '. Big Wanganui river in a vehicle, Mr Saraty, a drape,, was washed out of bis trap and down the stream. CHRISTCHURCTT. May 31. At Kaikoura on Saturdfc- evening the mate of tho .schooner Falcon was brought ashore by a local fishing launch*suffering froTn a wound in the back caused by the accidental discharge of a oca. rifle while shooting birds" The doctor ascertained the location of the bullet and ordered the mate to the hospital. Tho launch Spec brought him down to Lyttqlton DUNEDIN. May 31. An innuost was hold this afternoon on the body of an infant born of a single woman named Isabella Maxwell, who worked as a domestic servant at Mornington. Dr. Church stated that he was called to Mrs Low's (tho girl'semployer) house between 2 and 3 o'clock this morning. He found the body of a newly-born child beside tbo girl' Maxwell. A post mortem examination showed it had not breathed. He would say that in all probability had a doctor'or nurse boon present at birth respiration would have taken' nlaco. After further evidence had been given, the inquest was adjourned pending the recovery of tho mother. A single man named Robert Taylor, a corporation labourer, was killed this afternoon, by falling off his cart, the wheel of which passed over him. Deceased's mother resides at Blucspur, Lawrence.
