THE SOUTHLAND MEETING

INVERCARGILL. May 2S. The coursing meeting finished todav. Results:— "MAIDEN STAKE, of £loo.—Semifinal —Mr Jones' (Dunedin) On Guard beat Mr A. Brown's (Dunedin) Roosevelt. Mr F. Malcolmn's (Heddon Hush) Maori Queen, a bye. Final — Maori Queen beat On Guard, and won the stake. A clinking hare reaching safety before effective work '"could be accomplished, a second attempt had to be made. The pair were together for the first part, but Maori Queen shot out and got the turn. On Guard, then had a look in, but the bitch was too clever for him, and won with a little to spare. SUPPLEMENTARY STAKE. Second round —Salute beat X Rays. Third round —All Over lieat Snowdrop. Geordb beat Little May, Manxman heat Prettv Day. Salute a bye. Semifinal—All Over beat Geordie. Salute heat Manxman. Final—Mr J. Jones' Salute (Dunedin) beat Mr J. Griffin's Manxman (Nightcaps), and won the stake. Salute led up and worked well, winning by a small margin.
