S'J'EAMERS HELD UP. ihxss Association-By Telegraph-Copyright PARIS, May 28. The strike detained 43 vessels and 3500 passengers at Marseilles. BOOT TRADE DISPUTE. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, May'2B. The conference between representatives of the manufacturers and employees in the boot trade, with Mr P. Halley, Conciliation Commissioner, in the chair, lasted for several hours. It is understood that Mr Halley succeeded in bringing the parties closer together than has been the case sinee the dispute was initiated several months ago. Several compromises and suggestions were framed for submission to'the Arbitration Court. The. exact details being, of a confidential nature, and for the use of the Court only, are at present withheld from publication, but it is understood Uiat the issues have been so narrowed down that a satisfactory award by the Court is practically assured. Mr Halley was warmly thanked by the parties for his assistance and the ability displayed by him. in connection with the proceedings.
