GAS COOKER.

PRACTICAL LESSONS

A large amount oi' interest was manifested yesterday evening in the demonstration given by Miss Margaret Lovell on Low cooking should be done —per the medium oi a gas cooker. The show room of tiie Timaru Gas Company Lad been specially fitted up for llie occasion, and long before the advertised time for the demonstration, all the seating accommodation was filled by members of the fair sex. Miss Lovell has been making a two years' tour of Australia and New Zealand, under the auspices of the makers of the wellknown Wright's "Eureka" gas cookers, for the purpose of showing that, given the necessary supply of gas. the modern housewife ni.-t:d no longer broil over torrid fireplaces or fear the •servant question, for with a "Eureka" installed in the house, cooking is niuch simplified. In Dunedin. where Miss Lovell has recently lectured, she met with a splendid lecepiion, and attracted large audiences, and deservedly so, for her performance, if one may so term it, sniin-ks oi tlie marvellous, so deftly, neatly and expeditiously are all operations performed. Last evening M'V Lovell showed practically how. a quite elaborate dinner may bo prepare! in ai: hour, at a cost in gas of merely twopence. Presiding among her aluminium cooking aparafis she turned out a repast- consisting of white soup.- baked soles, roast beet" (really roast- and not baked), and baked potatoes, pear creams, baked custard, vanilla cheesecakes, railway pudding, and cheese fingers. A huge number of the excellent little cookery books compiled by Miss Lovell "were secured by those present, who 'lie and all expressed themselves as highly delighted with the interesting demonstration. next Miss Novell will give another demonstration, at- which, among other things, the mysteries of preparing '■boned chicken 5 ' will be expounded.
