HOCKEY.
THURSDAY MATCHES. The match betwen Y.M.C.A. and Timaru, *on Russell Square, was witnessed by a-fair number of spectators, and resulted in a win for Timaru by t> goals to 1. For the winners,- goals were scored by Fleck (2), Smith (2), Palliser and Stevenson one each, while Gould scored for Y.M.C.A. Mr "Warburton was referee;
There was, a large attendance to witness the match between' Avoca and Te Rangi, on the Te Rangi ground. Tlie ground was very rougn in places, and good hockey was out of the question, but Avoca, playing with more dash than their opponents, secured an easy win by 9 goals to nil. N. Sullivan (6), Is. Shea <?2), and K. Sullivan (1), were the scorers. Mr Stephens was referee. A match between Te Rangi. and Temuka Hockey Clubs was played at Temuka yesterday afternoon, and resulted in a win for the latter by 5 goais to 3. The game was very fast and even, but Temuka's superior play went against Te Rangi. Mr Hatch refereed in a very satisfactory and impartial manner.
