OBITUARY.

THE REV. DR. MOULTON

The death is announced of the Bev. Dr. Monlton, the well-known Methodist missionary, formerly of Tonga; aged 69 years. \ LADY BERRY, MELBOURNE, May 10. Friedrick Von Holstein, confidential adviser to four of the German Chancellors, is dead. JOHN GOLDIE, SENR. At his sou's residence, Tofcara Valley, on Sunday morning, Mr John Goldie, senr., who had attained the ripe age of 81 years, passed peacefully away. Mr Goldie was born in Ayrshire in 1828. He came to New Zealand at the age of 30 and landed in Auckland in 1858. A year later lie removed to Otago, and successfully carried on farming in the Moeraki district. In 1874 he revisited his native land, and on returning lived for a while in Timaru. In 1879 lie resumed farming at AVashdyke, and after being there ten years, lie bought a farmatTotara Valley, where he has resided since in the home of his only son. The.late. Mr Goldie had spent 20 years in this district, and was widely-known and highly respected. Mr Goldie was a valued member of the Timaru Agricultural and Pastoral Association, and his services were, frequently availed of hy kindred Associations, as a. judge of Ayrshire cattle and draught horses. Ho was'an e'rleu in Pleasant Point Presbyterian Church, and. when he . resided at Seadown he held .the same! position in Trinity Church under the Rev. AVm. Gillies. Of a, kind and gentle .disposition, Mr had a wide circle* r-f friends, ,and his death has le f t a gan that will not soon <he. filled. His wifepredeceased him hy about . twenty years, and he leaves an only son to mourn his loss, and receive the synir pathy of the people'.of', the district.
