LOCAL NOTES
The first round of the bogey handicap was played on Thursday and Saturday last. The trophy for the day was presented by Mr Mannering and three players tied for it with excellent scores and will play off as early as possible. The following are the results:—N. K. Cox -j—2 up, J. Hasscil 13—12. A. L. Anderson 12—12. A professional coach has been engaged for a month, and will commence next Monday. Players wishing to book engagements may do so at the lion, secretary's office. A bogey match was played on the Waimate Links on Thursday and Saturday, for a club presented by Mr R. D. Smith, Dunedin, resulting as follows: D. A. Fulton (handicap 3) 2 up, A. J. Manchester H 8) 1 down, T. A. t»rieg (scr) I down. E. Rickman (28) 3 down, AV. Kieby (3) 3 down. . Cards wero returned by 16 players. The players report the links to be in good order, and'in both -011105 enthusiasm is great and membership stronger than ever. The Fairlie Golf Club is at present ■ endeavouring to arrango fixtures with the neighbouring clubs. It has been decided to play Timaru at Fairlie on May 24th, Empire Day and there is a. possibility of playing Geraldine at Fairlie on June 3rd. So far no definite arrangements have been made with Temuka. It is pleasing to note the willingness of Timaru and Geraldine to travel to Fairlie each year, as these visits do much to st'rnulate the game in the country township.
