THEATRE ROYAL.

SHERWOOD'S PICTURES. There was a large attendance at the Theatre ltoyal on Saturday night, and the pictures were received with, rounds of applause. They were beautifully bright and clear, and so steady that they were not trying to the eyes. Tonight there will be a. complete change of programme, and the first 'chance ol seeing-the beautiful star drama picture, '• .Lucy of Lamina .Moor," from which Madame Melba sang the mad scene at the Theatre, Timaru, a short time ago. The puolie will have the pleasure oi witnessing the drama as it was played in England and Paris. This picture lias bejn secured at great expense b\ the management. There will be another picture, entitled the "Signalman's Sweetheart," also a host ol scenic and industrial pictures, all guaranted' new to Timaru. The beauty competition was a great attraction, but owing to the delay, and the management only receiving one photo on I riday, and" on Saturday afternoon two others, they could not be shown, as it takes a long time to make a lantern slide from a photo. The Professor announced that if the audience were agreeable, he would present the bangle to the first person who sent her photograph. The bangle was shown, and a display of hands asked for by the Professor was greatly in favour ol giving the others a chance. The Professor added that owing to the disappointment every lady present would Ix given a free pass after the performance, so as to enable them to witness the competition to-night. This was a very generous offer on the part of Mr Sherwood. Mr Kingston has charge of the box plan, where seats can be booked without further charge. There is a great treat in store to-night, as the pictures will be well displayed.
