Press Association-By Telegraph-Copyright EMIGRATION TO AUSTRALIA. LONDON; May 7. Dr Richard Arthur, of Sydney, had an interview of an hour and a quarter with Mr John Burns. Mr Burns was very sympathetic, and said he was ready to receive a deputation and suggest methods whereby Britain coujd assist emigration to Australia. Mr Burns considers that the colonies should bear the. cost of transport of young men. If Britain rears -them to manhood, she loses their future economic value. REST DAY FOR POLICEMEN. The House of Commons Committee reported in favour of one complete weekly rest day for the Londoii police. ACCOUNTANTS' CHARTER. The Earl of Crewe, has consented tq allow a month for the hearing of Victorian objections to the application of the public accountants for-a Charter. SENTENCED TO DEATH. Oscar Slater has been- sentenced to death for murdering Miss Gilchrist in a Glasgow llat on December 21st. Received 4.30 p.m., May 9th.
