IMPORTANT REMITS. Per Press Association. IXVERCARGILL, April 30. At a mooting of the Southland Executive of the Farmers' Union, the following (among other) remits to be submitted to the annual conference were received. That a protest be entered against an alteration in the size of grain sacks. That strong exception be taken to the action of the Southland Acclimatisation Society in securing the protection of hares.
That imported timber be placed on tlio free l : st and no distinction made i-> railway charges as between imported and New Zealand timber.
That steps be taken to secure the immigration of suitable farm servants, especially ploughmen. That first class railway tickets at second class rates be allowed farmers attending conferences. That when valuations are being made one v.°l>ior should be nnnointod bv farmers acting in conjunction with the Government Valuer. That taxation on land and on money W* on land he put on a more equitable basis.
One branch will submit a motion regretting the Premier's Dreadnought action without first consulting Parliament. The executive will stibmit that a contract svstcm of public works be averted to as more satisfactory than the cooperative: that injustice is caused by the taxation of growing flax; that a protest be entered against the continual increase of valuations of unimproved rnral lands: ♦>>"+ + l "* bo urged to nTrend the; law so as to enable every settler to have the option of acquiring the freehold of lands tor setlement lands. . Tt is understood that the dairy regulations wll be generally reviewed and dealt with.
