THE SOUTHLAND INCIDENT. Per Press Association, CHRISTCHURCH, April 2a. A special meetifag of tho New Zealand Cricket Council to-night considered matters iii connection with the disqualification of Southland cricketers who are members of • the Southland Caledonian Society by tho Sports Federation. Tho Vice-President of tho Council (Mr F. Wilding) ruled ,tliat as the Associations affiliated to tho Council had not received 21 days' notice prior to the annual meeting at which tho proposal to affiliate with the Federation came before' tho delegates, tho affiliation agreed upon at : tho annual meeting was illegal. Ho also ruled that under the constitution of tho Council they had no power of disqualification and could not recogniso disqualifications imposed by other bodies unaffiliated to it. ' The meeting unanimously agreed to these rulings. ' It was resolved to notify tho Federation that tho affiliation of tho Council was illegal and to request the removal of tho Council's uamo from the list of bodies affiliated, to the Federation. Tho effect of this decision will bo that the .Federation does not exist. At a. meeting of -tho tiewly sipnointed executive of the 'New Zealand Hockey Association held after tho annual meeting to-night, the Southland Association forwarded a. resolution recommending the secession of the 1 Hockey Association from the Sports' Federation. This is the outcome of : thc disqualification of tho. Southland Caledonian Society by tho Federation. Notice of motion was given that "effect be given to tho Southland proposal..' .
