WAIMATE HOSPITAL TRUSTEES.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Waimate Hospital Board was held yesterday. Present: Messrs J. Sinclair, in the chair, E. Sanders, W. Miller, E. J. Atwill, H. Dohrmann, T. Milne, J. Bitchoner, T. L. Hart, A. F. J. White. The resident surgeon, Dr H. C. Barclay, reported that the returns during the past month were as follows: — Patients under treatment at the date of last return, 12 males, 3 females; admitted during the month, 5 males and 5 females; total treated, 17 males and 8 females, fc ix males and four females were discharged cured, one male adjudged incurable, and three males died, leaving 7 males, 4 females in the institution. ' Four males and one female were treated in the out-patient department. —The report was adopted. A letter was received from the South Canterbury and Hospital and Charitable Aid Board with regard to a case of an incurable female in the Waimate Hospital, whose sons, though said to be a.ble to look after her, declined to do so. The Board, Tinder these circumstances, said.that they could not take charge of the woman, and advised the Hospital Trustees to take legal action against her family for maintenance. Tt was decided that the visiting committee go into the circumstances of the case and if necessary get a legal opinion on the Board's position in the matter. The Board also wrote authorising an expenditure of £6o'for renovations, etc. to the Waimate Hospital, and it was decided to call for tenders for the work, the committee being authorised to accent none that were over £6O. The resignation of Miss Helen E. Akhurst, probationer, was accepted, and it was resolved that Misses Hanua, and Reynolds be offered the position. Mr F. White reported for the visiting committee that the nurses' quarters, which had been done up, looked very well. The small articles that had been asked for by the matron had been procured. There was a considerable quantity of articles such as beds, etc. and a stove which they recommended should be gob rid,of, a new grate and an asphalt path from the hospital to the shleter were needed. i The report was adopted and the recommendations will bo acted on. It was decided that the annual holiday for each nurse bo extended to three weeks, and Miss Watts was granted leave of absence. A vote of thanks was passed to Messrs Nimmo and Blair tor the gin of a. box of bulbs. , Accounts amounting to i.Ju <>» <>" were passed for payment and the Board rose. -
