THE BROKEN HILL STRIKE. Press Association-Uy Telegraph-Copyright SYDNEV, April'l7. Tlio Labour Council negatived a motion favouring the withdrawal of its embargo upon the Unions as regards registration under the Industrial Disputes Act. The Labour Congress decided to cooperate with the Labour Council in an anti-immigration crusade. The sum of £28,000 has been received for the Broken Hill lock-out fund, and over £26,000 expended.
ANOTHER PROTEST. ' Per Press Association. INYERCARGILL, April 18. At a meeting on Saturday .toiglit, the Southland Trades and Labour Council unanimously carried the ! following resolution—r"That this Council strongly protests against the unwarantable and undemocratic action of the Premier in removing from the House of Representatives and giving to a member of the [Toper House tlie important portfolio of Minister of Jutsicc, being decidely of opinon that in an enlglitened and democratic community the control and administration of the Justice and the Police Departments should be held by a man who has been elected by and is responsible to the electors of the Dominion; and that copies of this resolution be forwarded to other Trades and Labour Councils and organisations, who will bo. asked to make similar protests."
